Mirage Project Point makes its debut during the anticipated Dubai Design Week with an educational line-up of talks and debates.
On Monday October 24, on the inaugural day of the six-day design festival, Mirage will open its doors to its first international Project Point outside of its home country, Italy.
Following on from the success of Mirage Project Point Milan, the new space offers architects, interior designers and those in the design and construction industry an open consulting and meeting place in the heart of Dubai Design District (d3).
Tanya Pearson, Manager of Mirage Middle East, says
“Having worked with many regional architects and interior design practices over the decades, and now being based in d3, it was important for us to support regional initiatives like Dubai Design Week that encourage the designers of the future, as well as established design practices. We hope visitors to Dubai Design Week will find our talks educational, insightful and topical.”
The venue’s first talk on the 24th, from 12.30pm to 2.30pm, looks at a topical subject in the Middle Eastern construction industry, Fire Safety in Façade Design, Putting Policy into Practice. Guest speakers include a regular commentator on the topic Abhishek Chhabra of Thomas Bell-Wright International Consultants, specialists in passive fire protection and façade testing, Robert Davies, head of fire and life safety at consultants WSP-Parsons Brinckerhoff, and Ammar Saad, general manager of Lever Building Materials, which represents leading products in the building material industry and is the exclusive regional distribution partner of Mirage Middle East.
“The key to achieving higher standards of fire and life safety is to educate and inform people about the ways in which a fire can occur, the risk of a fire occurring and how the risk can be mitigated,” comments Robert. “The fire safety panel will provide an opportunity to discuss common issues and to help inform the attendees on the latest requirements.”
On Tuesday October 25, 12.30pm-2.30pm, Preserve Your Ideas by Protecting IP is an insightful talk about protecting intellectual property, and how architects and interior designers can safeguard their concept ideas, completed projects, interior and exterior architecture from copycats by protecting trademarks, patents and copyright. Victor Siriani, managing partner of AVID IP, will host the talk and present interesting case studies like the Burj Al Arab and Apple stores. The audience member who asks Victor the best question about intellectual property will be gifted a pair of Marc Jacobs sunglasses.
Supported by Dubai Design Week, the third talk in the series, Creating Contemporary Commercial Spaces, will be hosted by the designers of Mirage Project Point Dubai, Pallavi Dean Interiors. Design director Pallavi Dean and director of interior design Christina Morgan will discuss creative ideas and tips, drawing upon innovative design details in the venue and other examples in the region.
Another anticipated collaboration will be unveiled as Design in Ras Al Khor (DRAK16), in association with Dubai Design Week, returns for a second edition. This year, Mirage Middle East and its distribution partner Lever Building Materials are exclusive venue hosts for the DRAK16 exhibition and design dinners, which will be held every day at Lever Building Materials’ warehouse and offices in Ras Al Khor, from 4pm. For free transport to and from the exhibition venue, visitors can book a complimentary taxi from Mirage Project Point Dubai, B101 Building 5, d3, to Lever Building Materials, Industrial Zone 2, Ras Al Khor (and back to d3), between October 24 and 29, 4pm to 9pm on weekdays and until 10pm at the weekend.
